Proposed Motion

That Council direct Administration to prepare an Agricultural Impact Assessment policy and present this policy for review at the Committee of the Whole meeting on July 6, 2021.

Administration Recommendation

Administration supports review of a proposed Agricultural Impact Assessment policy, but asks Council to consider an amendment to the timelines and direction to enable administration to bring a report back to the Committee of the Whole on September 7, 2021.

 

Purpose

This policy will require an agricultural impact assessment be undertaken when a non-agricultural development, or a development which does not directly support agricultural operations, is proposed on lands zoned as agricultural. This impact assessment will be required to indicate potential and/or expected impacts on agricultural land.

 

Summary

On April 27, 2021, Mayor Shaigec put forward a Notice of Motion:

 

"Take notice that at a regular meeting of Council on May 11, 2021, Mayor Shaigec will move that Council direct administration to prepare a policy for Council review and approval requiring an agricultural impact assessment be undertaken when a non-agricultural development, or a development which does not directly support agricultural operations, is proposed on lands zoned as agricultural. This policy shall be presented to Council by July 2021.".
