Body

Administration Recommendation

Administration supports the recommendation as presented.

Purpose

WAVES has requested a grant in the amount of $25,000.00 for the development of the skate park in the hamlet of Wabamun.

Summary

WAVES is currently working on Phase 2 of a three phase project for the development of an activity park within the hamlet of Wabamun. The vision for the activity park is to provide recreation amenities to residents and visitors in an effort to build a sense of community and promote healthy lifestyles.  Prior to the dissolution, WAVES  had previously completed Phase 1 and began work on the initial steps of Phase 2. Phase 2 consists of expanding the activity park with the addition of a skate park, which they anticipate completing in September 2022 if funding can be secured. WAVES is committed to securing a variety of funding partners for the project and have already submitted applications to other grant programs. The operating model presented in their program statement relies on volunteers to operate and maintain the skate park, which has proven successful with the ice rink.
