Purpose
To provide Council with an update on the current state of the Wabamun Arena Assessment and its next steps.
Summary
On July 12, 2016, representatives of the Village of Wabamun presented a proposal to Parkland County Council for a Wabamun Arena Needs Assessment; as well as a request for cost share on the project. At the July 12, 2016, Council approved an amount of up to $25,000 from Restricted Surplus - Recreation Facilities as cost share for the Village of Wabamun to proceed with an arena assessment.
Council asked the Village of Wabamun to carry out and report back on Phase 2 of the project focusing on a Conditions Assessment of the Arena first, prior to undertaking the other phases of work in the assessment.

Parkland County has a number of other planning exercises underway including the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan, Tri-Municipal Indoor Recreation Facility Strategy and the Entwistle Community Hub concept that need to be considered, along with the results of the Wabamun Arena Assessment, by the County when determining a long term, county wide approach to meeting the parks, recreation and culture needs of our residents.
